THERAPUDIC TECHNIQUES

Person-centered therapy is a traditional talk therapy that seeks to facilitate a client's self-actualizing tendency, "an inbuilt proclivity toward growth and fulfillment"- Carl Rogers. By exhibiting unconditional acceptance, genuineness, and empathic understanding, the counselor forms a relationship of trust with the client so that they feel safe enough to explore every facet of their psyche.

Mindfulness is simply the practice of returning to the present moment without judgment. Doing so allows us to create space between moments and better control our reactions to the world. Breathwork can help attain mindful awareness by moving our attention away from our thoughts & communicating to our body that we are safe.

Transpersonal theory takes a holistic approach to therapy with an emphasis on spirituality. This type of therapy aims to address the client's mental, physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual needs in order to facilitate healing and growth. With this lens, we recognize patterns, meaning, and messages from one's highest self and formulate rituals to create positive change and celebrate our ever-evolving life.

EMDR is based on the idea that negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are the result of unprocessed memories. During our sessions, we process traumatic events so that the past no longer negatively influences the present & future. With the support of mindfulness & grounding techniques, we focus simultaneously on the traumatic images, thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations while remaining in the present using eye movements or tapping. 

Parts Work therapy is the concept that our personality is composed of a number of various parts from our subconscious. The goal of parts therapy is to help clients communicate with, and form a healthy relationship with their parts so that they can show up when needed and take a step back when they are not. Guided imagery is used to reimagine one's reality, plan for the future and cultivate a safe calm place within one's mind to return to when life get difficult.

Cognitive behavioral techniques shine a light on how emotions, thoughts, and behaviors influence each other. By exploring how negative self-talk & core beliefs show up in one's life, clients gain agency over their reactions to life.
